This production of Shakespeare’s bloodiest tragedy fixates on the juxtaposition between beautiful poetry and grotesque cruelty, leaning into the horror, the civic anger and the moral decay. As Associate Director, I did intensive individual text work with principals and shaped characterization along with director Michael Flynn and the actors. As dramaturg, I prepared a presentation, linked below, and handled cutting the material for brevity while navigating the racism depicted. I also created the content warnings, and due to an illness in the company, I performed as Young Lucius/Captain/Attendant for 4 out of the 5 performances.
